منشی نول کشور کی ولادت 3 جنوری 1836 کو متھرا میں ہوئی۔ منشی نول کشور کے والد کانام پندت جمونا پرساد بھگاو کاتھا، ان کے والد علی گڑھ کے زمیندار تھے۔ آپ نے ابتدائی تعلیم کا آغاز مکتب میں فارسی اور اردو پڑھ کر کیا تھا۔ منشی نول کشور ایک کتاب پبلشرتھے۔ انہیں بھارت کا Caxton کہا جاتا ہے۔ 1858 ء میں، 22 سال کی عمر میں، انہوں نے 'نول کشور پریس اور کتاب ڈپو' قائم کیا تھا لکھنؤ میں۔ آج یہ ادارہ ایشیا میں سب سے پرانی پرنٹنگ اور اشاعت کا مرکز ہے۔ مرزا غالب منشی نول کشور کے وفاداردوست تھے۔
منشی نول کشورکی نوجوانی کے زمانے میں لاہور سے اخبار 'کوہِ نور' نکلتا تھا جس میں آپ کے مضامین شائع ہونے لگے، جو اس قدر مقبول ہوئے کہ اس کے مدیر منشی ہرسُکھ رائے نے انھیں لاہور آ کر اخبار میں کام کرنے کی دعوت دی جو نول کشور نے قبول کر لی۔1857 کے ملک گیر فسادات شروع ہو چکے تھے، جن میں دوران میں امرا و روسا کے صدیوں پرانے کتب خانوں میں موجود ہزاروں نادر مخطوطے تلف ہو گئے۔ 21 سالہ نول کشور نے تمام صورتِ حال کا گہری نظر سے جائزہ لیا اور انھیں ہم وطنوں کی حالت سدھارنے کا ایک کارگر طریقہ سوجھ گیا۔[1] آپ نے چند مذہبی رسائل اور بچوں کے قاعدے چھاپے اور انھیں خود ہی بیچنا شروع کیا۔ وہ خود اپنے کندھوں پر طبع شدہ مواد کے گٹھڑ اٹھا کر بازار اور دفاتر تک لے جاتے تھے۔ انگریزوں کو ان کی لگن پسند آئی اور انھیں دفتری سٹیشنری کے ٹھیکے ملنے لگے۔26 نومبر 1858 میں انھوں نے ’اودھ اخبار‘ کا اجرا کیا جو بڑے سائز کے چار صفحات پر مبنی ہوتا تھا۔ اس سلسلے میں غالباً ان کے پریس کا سب سے بڑا کارنامہ داستانِ امیر حمزہ کی 46 جلدوں کی اشاعت ہے جسے دنیا کی سب سے بڑی داستان کہا جاتا ہے۔ ہندو ہونے کے باوجود منشی نول کشور نے کئی اہم اسلامی کتابیں، قرآن کی تفاسیر، احادیث کے مجموعے اور فقہ کی کتابیں شائع کیں۔ مطبع منشی نول کشور لکھنؤ سے 1858 سے 1950 تک6000 سے زیادہ کتابیں شائع ہوئی ۔1950 میں منشی نول کشور کا پریس خاندانی جھگروں کی بنا پر بند ہو گیا ۔
غالب منشی صاحب کے ذاتی دوستوں میں شامل تھے۔ وہ نول کشور پریس کے بارے میں ایک خط میں لکھتے ہیں: 'اس چھاپہ خانے نے جس کا بھی دیوان چھاپا، اس کو زمین سے آسمان تک پہنچا دیا۔' غالب منشی صاحب کی تعریف میں زمین آسمان کے قلابے ملانے سے دریغ نہیں کرتے، چنانچہ ایک اور خط میں ان کے بارے میں لکھتے ہیں: 'خالق نے اسے زہرہ کی صورت اور مشتری کی سیرت عطا کی ہے۔' غالب کے دوست قدر بلگرامی جب مالی مشکلات کا شکار ہوئے تو غالب نے انھیں خط میں لکھا کہ جا کر لکھنؤ میں میرے دوست سے ملو، تمھارا کام ہو جائے گا۔

Despite being a Hindu, Munshi Nol Kishore has many. Published important Islamic books, interpretation of Quran, collections of Ahadith and books of Fiqh.
