اِنَّا لِلّٰہِ وَاِنَّآ اِلَیْہِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

اردو ادب کے مشہور نقاد اور محقق جنہوں نے تنقید نگاری سے اپنا سفر شروع کیا تھا۔ انہوں نے الہ آباد سے ’شب خون‘ کا اجرا کیا جسے جدیدیت کا پیش رو قرار دیا گیا۔ اس رسالے نے اردو مصنفین کی دو نسلوں کی رہنمائی کی۔ فاروقی صاحب نے شاعری کی، پھر لغت نگاری اور تحقیق کی طرف مائل ہو گئے۔ اس کے بعد افسانے لکھنے کا شوق چرایا تو “شب خون“ میں فرضی ناموں سے یکے بعد دیگرے کئی افسانے لکھے جنہیں بے حد مقبولیت حاصل ہوئی۔ تین سال قبل انہوں نے ایک ناول لکھا، ‘سانچہ:کئی چاند تھے سرِ آسماں‘ جسے عوام و خواص نے بہت سراہا۔ اس کے علاوہ انہیں عام طور پر اردو دنیا کے اہم ترین عروضیوں میں سے ایک گردانا جاتا ہے۔ غرض یہ اردو ادب کی تاریخ میں شمس الرحمٰن فاروقی جیسی کثیر پہلو شخصیت کی نظیر ملنا مشکل ہے۔
