Klein & Hoffman is seeking Structural Engineering entry-level positions to support our Chicago Office. This student will work closely with our talented and renowned engineers to find creative solutions to various challenges and work on real-world projects in a professional setting.
Primary Responsibilities - Perform analysis and design of structural systems for a variety of building types using various building codes.
- Work in all aspects of building structures or building envelope systems, focusing on steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber, glass, and aluminum material systems.
- Calculate and analyze loads (e.g., dead loads, live loads, wind loads) to assist project teams with determining structure strength and stability requirements.
- Review of existing structures to document as-built construction details.
- Visit construction sites to observe the progress and quality of the structural drawings. Assist the project team with solutions to site issues that may arise.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation to communicate engineering findings, analysis, and recommendations to project stakeholders.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including other engineers, to achieve project goals and solve technical challenges.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of design specifications, calculations, and solutions implemented on behalf of the project team.
- Use CAD/ BIM software to create detailed structural drawings and plans for construction projects.
Required Education - Bachelor's degree in structural/civil/architectural engineering. A master's degree is preferred.
- Required courses include structural analysis and structural design.
- An EIT/FE certificate is preferred but not required.
Qualifications and Other Qualifications - Must have experience with AutoCAD (Revit is preferred but not required)
- Fluent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with one or more computer programs RISA, SAP2000, ETABS, Mathcad, Tedds, RAM Frame, Enercalc, Rhino, SketchUp, or Grasshopper is preferred.
Other Requirements - Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
- Able to ride suspended scaffolding and work from heights desired.
