Overview Sr. Estimator
JOB SUMMARY:
The Sr. Estimator Position requires a self-starter with experience in all phases of construction estimating including proposal preparation, quantity surveys, supplier and subcontractor solicitations, manpower production rates, logistic methods, preparation of documents, and preparation of estimates, primarily for contracting opportunities nationwide for the Federal Government, and remote Alaska. Projects range from $100K - $30 million plus.
Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Participate in Home Office and field meetings with project team members, subcontractor and client personnel, as required.
Identify potential problem areas or trends and work on continuous improvement issues.
Maintain communication with the field team and home Office project team members regarding significant problem areas and potential solutions.
Have mutual accountability with Project Manager, Site Safety and QA/QC Manager for completion of efforts on time and within budget.
Assist in identifying and tracking new project opportunities as well as project funding and finance opportunities.
Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
Assist in developing costs/budget for design build projects.
Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified subcontractors and negotiating price.
Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
Create initial project construction schedules.
Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
Maintain cost database by entering and backing up data.
Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Ensure timely completion of estimates.
Understand scope of work to bid.
Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
Will travel to job sites on occasion.
Knowledge and Critical Skill/Expertise: Strong technical (mechanical/electrical/architectural/civil, concrete, general construction) and organizational skills.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction industry.
Ability to manage estimates and proposal processes from start to finish with self-sufficiency.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Advanced computer skills. Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.

Qualifications Required Experience:
15-20 years’ experience in commercial/industrial/Federal construction estimating.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Applied Science, Civil Engineering or comparable work experience.
Broad knowledge in construction methods, practices, schedules, logistics and budgets.
Able to read architectural plans and develop cost estimates.
Strong understanding of construction processes.
Experience estimating in response to DOD, DOJ solicitations.
Ability to work extended work schedules as required supporting the project schedules.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and relationships.
U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status required.
A valid drivers' license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required. Must not have any reckless driving or DUI within the past ten years.
May be required to pass security clearance investigation.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to read text on a computer screen and in hard copy, stand or sit, talk, and hear.

Exposure to moderate levels of noise in a well-lit, well-ventilated, and moderately paced environment.
Continuously required to sit, hear and/or respond to verbal/audio cues, perform repetitive motions of hands and wrists, and read computer screen.
Occasionally required to stand or walk.
Rarely required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, bend, or reach with hands and arms.
Rarely required to push, pull and/or carry objects up to 10 pounds.
Environmental Conditions: The work environment is that of a typical office setting.
In a large building in an urban setting.
May occasionally travel to a construction site.
May occasionally travel to rural areas.
