The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) is seeking enthusiastic, energetic sports instructors to lead our youth sports classes and take them tot he next level. The Sports Instructor is responsible for instruction, follow-up, member relations and all other aspects of assigned class(es). They are to provide a safe, fun, friendly and well-rounded learning environment for child participants while adhering to the YMCA Supervision and Safety Standards.

- You enjoy working with children and have a passion for teaching them new skills.
- You have availability to work weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Salary & Benefits: The salary for this position is starts at $16.50, based on experience. This Part Time position, up to 25 hours per week, works on site either the Summit YMCA or Berkeley Heights YMCA branch. Open shifts are weekday afternoons from 3:30pm - 7:45pm and weekends from 9:15am - 1:15m. The weekly scheduled hours may change based on program offerings and student registration.

Essential Functions: - Instruct participants on the proper skills needed for the specific sport. Be an active instructor- no sitting down while teaching.
- Supervise class activities to ensure they are participating in a safe manner.
- Be enthusiastic and confident about what you are teaching and how children are performing.
- Properly store and maintain equipment. Report any damaged equipment to supervisor.
- Teach sport ethics and fundamentals of various sports and activities.
- Record daily attendance of your class(es) and submit rosters at the end of each session.
- Discipline children when necessary, in an appropriate manner using positive verbal reinforcement.
- Be appropriately dressed-no open toed shoes at any time in the gymnasium.
- Responsible for notifying the Sports Director of schedule problems with sufficient notice.
- Keep Sports Director informed of all first aid concerns, discipline or other significant problems.
- Record and report all incidents to the Sports Director immediately.
- Attend any scheduled staff meetings or training.
- Perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by the Sports Director.

Requirements
Qualifications: - Prior experience working with children is preferred.
- Previous experience as a player or a coach for relevant sport. Like basketball, tennis, golf, soccer, volleyball, t-ball, Etc.
- A high school diploma or its equivalency is preferred.
- CPR / First Aid Certified.
