Role Overview:


The Senior Internal Auditor completes risk-based internal audits in operations, finance, and information technology. You will bring value to the organization by identifying gaps in risk mitigation, collaborating with management to identify opportunities for improvement, and providing timely reporting to assist management with informed decisions toward achieving objectives. The Senior Internal Auditor will also have audit assignments as an audit reviewer. This role assists in providing support and training to the internal audit team.


Salary:


The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800 annually and may be commensurate with education and experience.


A Day in the Life:


The essential functions of this position are:

  • Perform and review audits of varying complexity through planning, risk and control analysis, fieldwork, and reporting.
  • Provide insight to enhance operating efficiencies, control processes, and risk management capabilities.
  • Independently perform assigned audit testing and accurately report conclusions on the design and effectiveness of the control activities.
  • Identify control gaps and exceptions from expected control activities and evaluate the potential impact.
  • Apply research, analysis, and creative thinking skills to solve problems, investigate irregularities, and improve processes.
  • Collaborate with management to perform root cause analysis on identified issues.
  • Successfully multitask audit activities by delivering results of more than one audit concurrently.
  • Adhere to confidentiality requirements of the agency and auditing standards.
  • Develop knowledge of federal and state laws and external source’s regulations and requirements relating to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
  • Develop technical abilities in data analysis concepts and data analytics.
  • Acclimate team members to unfamiliar processes, techniques, and technologies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required, consistent with the objectives and responsibilities of the Internal Audit Department.

What You'll Need for Success:


Preferred credentials:

  • Advanced degree or professional certification in one or more of the following: CIA/CISA/CPA.
  • Three or more years of experience in internal auditing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data analysis concepts, practices, and emerging technologies.


Base Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in a field incorporating quantitative analysis such as business, sciences, or other.
  • Three years of experience in internal auditing.
  • Ability to draw sound conclusions from qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and an eagerness to learn.
  • Proficient with technology including Microsoft Office applications. Experience with analytics tools is a plus.
  • Proven growth mindset evident through continuous learning.
  • Ability to perform unbiased, objective evaluations of processes, data, and other information.
  • Solid time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Apply appropriate coaching skills to help achieve audit, department, and organizational goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
