Description JOB DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the YMCA Healthy Living Director, and consistent with the mission of the YMCA, a Pilates Reformer Instructor will provide quality member services through leadership in exercise instruction on the variety of Pilates equipment in a group setting and in interacting with members accordingly.
KNOW HOW: Knowledge and experience in Pilates Reformer and other Pilates equipment training at the YMCA or from another accredited facility with similar programming. Must have team taught 8 classes with an approved instructor. Must have excellent communication skills and have the ability to provide positive feedback, motivation and encouragement to members, while maintaining a safe training environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Start and finish classes at scheduled time, all classes must include a warm-up and a cool-down.
- Must take attendance at each class and follow make-up scheduling procedures.
- Be prepared with music and arrive at least 5 minutes early to greet members warmly and enthusiastically, and introduce yourself to them before starting.
- Must also stay at least 5 minutes after class to make sure equipment is put away and answer questions members may have. If you are the last person to teach, you must lock up the Pilates Studio.
- Inquire (and act upon) if anyone has any injuries or ailments that might restrict them from having a safe workout.
- Demonstrate and explain correct way to perform exercises and be able to offer modifications for all exercises.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures. Respond promptly and appropriately. Push Red Button located outside the studio for assistance.
- Teach safe, fun and effective exercise classes.
- Inform supervisor of worn, broken or unsafe equipment.
- Present self in a professional manner and dress in appropriate exercise attire.
- Attend continuing education courses / workshops and maintain certifications
- Promote an environment that supports the YMCA's mission and our four-core values- caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
- Assist in all aspects of promotion of your class, other YMCA classes, and special events.
- Be knowledgeable about other programs the YMCA of Central KY offers.
- Remember, you are not here for your own workout and serving the members is your first priority.

JOB REQUIREMENTS - Maintain current Pilates Mat or Reformer instructor certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization is required or must be obtained within six months after hire
- Maintain current CPR and AED Certification (obtain within 60 days)
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must enjoy working with people and have good human relation skills
- Must have at least 50 hours as a class participant, or have previously taught classes
