Candidates must perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Under the general direction of the Staff Management Auditor, the Associate Management Auditor (AMA) will provide a full range of the more responsible, varied, and complex analytical staff work in financial, compliance, and management audit functions for the Internal Audit Office (IAO). This work will be performed at the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Boards, Bureaus, Programs, Division, and Commission.

Under close supervision of the Staff Management Auditor, the Staff Services Management Auditor (SSMA) will provide a full range of the more responsible, varied, and complex analytical staff work in financial, compliance, and management audit functions for the Internal Audit Office. This work will be performed at the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Boards, Bureaus, Programs, Division, and Commission.

The SSMA or AMA will independently and proficiently perform complex and difficult engagements (audits, evaluations, and/or reviews) at the first full journey level of the series. These assignments will consist of internal control audits, investigations, and consulting engagements. The SSMA or AMA will exercise professional judgment and analytical abilities in each phase of the audit engagement, which will include an assessment of the entire audit, the development of specific findings, and drafting of audit report. The SSMA or AMA will exercise due professional care in the preparation of audit work papers and regularly communicate with the Staff Management Auditor (SMA) on all audit findings or problems.

Working Conditions

The Internal Audit Office is currently on a hybrid work schedule and may be available permanently for employees who can satisfactorily perform their essential work duties independently and remotely; however, this position requires the employee to report to the office based on operational needs. The employee is responsible for any travel costs when reporting to the office. Travel expenses are not reimbursable for travels to the office, which may be required by management on a regular or intermittent basis. This position may require some travel throughout the State of California.

Our office is located at 1625 N. Market Blvd., Sacramento, CA and offers free parking.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Title 11, section 703 (d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). Pursuant to this requirement, applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring. In accordance with DCA's CORI procedures, clearance shall be maintained while employed in a CORI-designated position. Additionally, the position routinely works with sensitive and confidential issues and/or materials and is expected to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of documents and topics pertaining to individuals or to sensitive program matters at all times.

This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1, and within 30 days of leaving office.

•Knowledge of the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, and other appropriate standards used in performing financial and performance audit, evaluations, and/or reviews of governmental programs.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to use professional judgment when analyzing data and situations, draw sound conclusions, make appropriate recommendations, and take effective actions.

• Plan, organize, and act as a lead auditor to carry out audit assignments or special projects.

• Exercises a high degree of initiative.

• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

• Has the ability to work under pressure to ensure quality work products are completed timely and meet deadlines.

• Maintain a positive attitude and strive for excellence.

• Strong skills in utilizing Microsoft Office software applications.

• Logical reasoning.

• Participate in teambuilding, brainstorming, and planning sessions for identifying solutions for addressing problem areas or issues.

• Willingness to travel to other DCA locations in California.
