I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The Law School is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. GW Law is located on the GW campus in the downtown DC neighborhood, known as Foggy Bottom.

The Law School’s Jacob Burns Law Library supports the curricular and teaching requirements of the Law School, the research and publication needs of the law faculty, and the study and research needs of the law students; and provides the scholarly community at large, with access to a research collection of material about the law and its history. The Law Library seeks a qualified individual to support the use of instructional design principles and instructional technology to create quality learning environments and design authentic and applied learning experiences for GW Law. The incumbent will work with course instructors individually and as part of a team to develop and maintain quality online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses, support faculty development in course design and delivery, and seek ways to continually improve course and program delivery.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with faculty, subject matter experts, and other staff in the design and development of online courses and course materials
  • Collaboratively plan, design, develop, and revise high-quality for-credit courses and course materials to meet the Law School standards.
  • Identify and communicate contextual best practices for applying teaching and learning theories to curriculum design.
  • Assists faculty in updating course content and readying courses for new course launches. Reviews course content and ensures all course sites adhere to federal ADA accessibility standards, copyright guidelines, and appropriate online course quality standards.
  • Maintain and expand face-to-face and online faculty training
  • Develop training materials including job aids, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials to assist faculty with instructional design principles and the use of online teaching and learning tools.
  • Recommend effective and creative use of technologies to enhance instruction and create new learning environments.
  • Remain current on and evaluate emerging technologies that have potential value for online and face-to-face teaching and learning.
  • Design, develop, and implement evaluation procedures to assess the effectiveness of technology use in teaching and learning processes.
  • Utilize software such as web page development, desktop publishing, image editing, and presentation tools to develop custom products to meet user needs.
  • Provide technology support for online teaching and learning products used by faculty, students, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in instructional design theory and online course development is desired.
  • Experience or familiarity with Learning Management Systems, especially Canvas, and with educational technology and collaboration tools (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Ally for Canvas, Turn IT In, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Kaltura, Zoom, Poll Everywhere, and HTML) desired.
  • Experience in the best practices in online learning and distance education.
  • Experience setting up and participating in web conferencing technologies such as Zoom preferred.
  • Knowledge of video production, video streaming, and file management using hosted solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to engage with instructors and staff in a professional, accessible, and courteous manner.
