Job Description: The fundamental basis for SSR's future value is the drillhole database. SSR's drillhole databases contain thousands of drill holes with millions of records. The drillhole data forms the basis for our Mineral Resource and Reserve calculations, so is material to our compliance obligations. The data is commercially sensitive as new assays have the potential to affect share price, so the security of the database is very important. The geological databases (MX-deposit, Leapfrog, GIS, and Resource Block Models) are the fundamental repositories of SSR's orebody knowledge and need a high-level custodian to ensure integrity and improve workflows.
The Day to Day: Geological Database Design and Implementation:
Design, implement, and manage robust geological (mainly drillhole) database systems to store data efficiently. Develop and enforce database management policies, procedures, and standards.
Data Integrity and Accuracy:
Ensure geological data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across all databases by establishing and enforcing rigorous data management policies.
Backup and Recovery:
Perform regular data backups and develop comprehensive disaster recovery plans to mitigate risks of geological data loss and ensure business continuity.
Database Performance Optimization:
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimizations to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
Security Management:
Implement and maintain advanced security protocols to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, breaches, and cyber threats.
Collaboration and Support:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including geologists, engineers, IT and finance professionals, to understand data requirements and provide technical support for their data needs.
Data Audits and Compliance:
Conduct regular data audits to ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and best practices. Address any discrepancies or issues identified during audits.
User Training and Support:
Provide training and support to staff on database usage, best practices, and data management tools to ensure efficient and effective data handling.
Data Migration and Integration:
Oversee data migration projects, ensuring seamless integration of new data sources and systems into existing database infrastructure.
Reporting and Analytics:
Develop and maintain reporting and dashboard systems to provide timely and accurate data insights to support decision-making processes at all organizational levels.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive documentation of database structures, processes, and security protocols. Generate regular reports on database performance, security incidents, and compliance status.
