Be part of a community services team on the East Side of Saint Paul!
In this role, you will strengthen Merrick’s service to the East Side of Saint Paul through implementation of process improvement and data collection strategies, as well as assisting with development of donor and volunteer relations.
This is a part-time hourly position with Merrick Community Services. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is looking to gain real non-profit development and marketing experience. Hours/days of the week are flexible.

Merrick Community Services was founded on Saint Paul’s East Side in 1908, part of a national model of settlement houses, which provided essential services to economically disadvantaged communities. Today, Merrick Community Services stands as one of the oldest nonprofit agencies in Ramsey County, with a history of assisting individuals and families transition from poverty and become self-sufficient and stable. The core programs of MCS are the Food Shelf, Meals on Wheels, Employment/Career Services, and Family and Community Services.
Description
The Specialist will work collaboratively and supportively with MCS staff over the one-year project period to identify opportunities for data collection capacity building and streamlining across all program areas. In conjunction with the MCS Development Department, the Specialist will implement sustainable process improvement strategies in the areas of both donor development and data collection as well as in capturing client data at a singular point and creating ways of sharing this data across all program areas. Finally, the Specialist will work with the Director of Resource Development to examine current volunteer requests and systems of volunteer recruitment in order to sustainably increase the capacity of the volunteer experience and organize volunteer data and hours.
Specific Responsibilities/Tasks/Skills Required
· Explore Merrick’s development and data management systems, drawing connections between systems and departments, for the purposes of streamlining processes.
· Be comfortable thinking through and writing a standard operating procedure.
· Familiarity with basic data collection and its importance to the functioning of an organization.
· Research skills to contribute to building more robust systems of data collection and donor and volunteer categorization and management.
· Commitment to the mission and work of Merrick Community Services.
· Commitment to racial justice and understanding how systemic oppression informs Merrick’s community work.
· Initiative to create and implement ongoing timelines for review of created materials.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to create and share trainings with MCS staff.
· Focused on balancing high-level vision with practical details.
· Comfort and/or experience in interacting with donors, volunteers, and/or marginalized communities in a direct service and/or community organizing capacity.
· (Preferred, but not required) Knowledge of donor databases such as Kindful, Classy, MailChimp, Volunteer Hub client tracking software, other contact management software, or the openness to learn them.
Working Conditions
This position is part-time, requires some weekend hours but will work around a student schedule. Hybrid position. Merrick offers a competitive benefits package.
